Breweries and bottle shops in East Midlands

Few places in Britain can match this region's claim to brewing history. Burton's Victorian breweries were, by one account, 'home to the most extensive beer breweries in the world,' and that legacy still shapes the water, the pubs and the brewing culture clustered around the Trent today. Beyond Burton, the East Midlands spreads out through Nottingham, Leicester, Derby and the market towns in between, with breweries ranging from long-established names to newer outfits working out of converted farm buildings and industrial units. The countryside does plenty of the work too, with farmhouses and villages hosting breweries that sell as much from the door as they do into pubs. Anything honestly knocked down in price turns up here soon after, set alongside the rest of what a brewery or shop has on its shelves. Off-licences and independent bottle shops tend to sit in the bigger towns, usually mixing local cans in with the more familiar brands. Given the depth of brewing history packed into this part of the country, it's a region worth returning to often rather than checking once and assuming nothing's changed.
