Brewery
Nottingham, East Midlands
Founded on an act of defiance: Chris Holmes opened a pub in Newark specifically to push back against an industry dominated by a handful of big brewers. The brewery grew out of that, and the pub estate is still very much part of the operation.
Castle Rock Brewery is an independent Nottingham brewery that traces back to The Old King's Arms in Newark, with brewing underway since 1997. Their Harvest Pale is the standout (it won the Supreme Champion Beer of Britain award) and sits in a core range that also runs to Session IPA, Oatmeal Stout, Preservation Best Bitter and Elsie Mo Golden Ale, several of which are marked as permanent, year-round beers. Beyond the core line-up they brew an exciting spread from traditional to experimental, available across cask, keg, can and bottle.
National delivery is £7.50, or free if you spend over £60, sent with InXpress and dispatched Thursdays for next-day. There's a separate local round (£5, or free over £60) to NG1–NG16, NG24, NG25, DE7 and DE72 postcodes on Fridays. Free collection at the Vat and Fiddle in Nottingham.
