Phipps NBC

Northampton, East Midlands

Phipps was founded in 1801 and moved to Northampton in 1817, staying family-run for over 150 years. At its height the pub estate stretched from Leicester in the north to Peterborough, Oxford and Warwick. The IPA stopped in 1972, was recreated in 2008, and brewing returned to the restored Albion Brewery in 2014.

Phipps brew on a British-built kit inside a restored Victorian brewhouse in Northampton (a mix of heritage and modernity, as they put it) and also make spirits on site. They keep local trade supplied too, delivering real ale in pins and firkins to Northamptonshire pubs four times a week. The range runs from lighter session beers like Midsummer Meadow (3.9%), Diamond Ale (3.7%) and Foundry Mild (3.5%), through Phipps IPA (4.3%), Gold Star (5.2%) and Festive Ale (5.3%), up to the hefty Stingo No.10 at 8.3%. It's history you can drink, straight from the tap.
