Breweries and bottle shops in and around Truro

Truro sits inland on its own little estuary, a cathedral rising over a working river town that feels like the quiet capital of somewhere much wilder. Boscawen Street and the lanes around the cathedral hold most of the shopfronts, but the real geography of this page runs a lot further than the city itself, out along the Fal towards Falmouth and its harbour, down past Roseland, along the coast road to St Agnes and beyond, wherever the far south-west of Cornwall keeps its granite units and converted barns. This is surf coast and fishing harbour country as much as it's cathedral city, and the beer follows that split: some of it's brewed within earshot of gulls and a working quay, some of it comes out of sheds tucked behind a farm gate a mile from anywhere with a postcode people recognise. This listing casts a wide net across that stretch of Cornwall rather than sticking to Truro's own postcode, because half the interesting stuff sits closer to the coast than to the cathedral. Expect narrow lanes, tidal creeks, granite gone silver with weather, and bottle shops that double as the only shop for miles in either direction. It's a slower part of the country to get around, and that's rather the point. Give yourself longer than you think you'll need, and don't expect mobile signal to help you plan the rest of the route.
