Blackwater Brewing operates from West Newlands Farm on the Essex saltmarshes at Steeple, where sky, land and sea meet. The site began brewing in 2023 as Ramsey Island Brewery, rebranding and upsizing to Blackwater Brewing Company in 2025 under new ownership. Beers include the Gilde Meister Bavarian Pils, served at The Star taproom a mile away and at Essex and Suffolk farmers markets.

Tucked away on the Essex saltmarshes near Steeple, Blackwater Brewing makes beers that are original and modern while staying true to heritage and standards. Black Water, their stout, brings a resinous aroma over a roasted, chocolatey body with a creamy white head. Tide Turner is a clean, refreshing West Coast pale ale, while Gilde Meister is an outstandingly crisp Helles lager with an authentically Bavarian hop and malt character. Complex, rewarding beers from a brewery that clearly knows its craft.
