Brewery
Whitby, Yorkshire and the Humber
Whitby Brewery has been brewing in the shadow of Whitby Abbey since 2013, founded by Richard Wells to bring craft brewing back to the town. It moved into larger premises in 2016 and runs an Experimental Brewery for small-batch innovation, alongside core beers such as Abbey Blonde. In June 2026 the council approved plans to reopen Whitby's former First In Last Out pub as The Railway Tap.
Whitby Brewery has been brewing since 2013, right beneath the Abbey on Whitby's cliff top, moving to larger premises in 2016 as things grew. Their beers are Abbey Blonde, Jet Black, Saltwick Nab and Smuggler's Gold, made with what they describe as only the finest barley, wheat and hops. Alongside those there's an Experimental Brewery strand for something a bit different. It's a small operation that says it's always learning and refining its recipes and process: a proper local brewery, cliff-top setting and all, rather than a big name playing at it.
