Breweries and bottle shops in and around Glasgow

Grid streets, sandstone tenements, a river that splits the place into distinct halves with their own moods. That's Glasgow, and its beer follows the geography closely. The West End leans studenty and a bit self-consciously cool; the Southside is quieter and more residential, the kind of area where a good bottle shop sits between a bakery and a launderette without making a fuss about it; the city centre swings between office-crowd pubs and the odd converted railway arch doing something more interesting with its taps. Weather here is changeable enough that plans get made and remade within the same afternoon, and a lot of the city's best drinking happens indoors as a direct result. Glasgow doesn't do polite about much, least of all its opinions on beer, and asking two people here for a recommendation tends to produce two firmly held, entirely different answers. This page sticks close to the city itself rather than sprawling outward, because that's roughly how Glaswegians think about their own patch too.
