A Lewes family business that has been in the same hands since 1790, with the seventh and eighth generations working there now. John Harvey started brewing as a seasonal sideline around 1820, in a town that had five other breweries at the time. Still privately owned, with no outside shares.
Harvey's core cask range is five beers brewed all year round, with a sixth – Old Ale – on for six months of the year. That line-up is Sussex Best, Armada Ale, Dark Mild, Sisters Table Beer and Pells Pale Cask, plus Old Ale through the colder months. It's a proper traditional cask brewery: no chasing trends, just a settled set of beers that have earned their place on the bar year-round.
