Hadrian Border go back to 1994, when they took over the Border Brewery Company in Berwick upon Tweed. They have since settled into a former pickle factory in Newburn, West Newcastle, mashing their first brew there in April 2011, and opened the Station East taproom in Gateshead in 2016.
Hadrian Border's core range is brewed year-round in cask and bottle, headed up by Tyneside Blonde, a 3.9% pale ale made with maris otter and wheat malt, and Farne Island, a balanced 4.0% amber bitter. Ouseburn Porter (5.2%) uses rolled oats for a smooth, rich, creamy dark beer, while Northern Pale (4.1%) brings citrus and grapefruit from Amarillo hops. Beyond the regulars, they run one-off specials too: recent ones include They Used To Mine Coal Here and They Win Trophies Here.
