Vaux Brewery

Sunderland

Vaux Brewery traces its name to Cuthbert Vaux, who founded the original brewery in Sunderland in 1806; it closed in 1999. The name was revived in 2019 by Steven Smith and Michael Thompson, with a new brewery and taproom that opened in May 2020. TV presenter George Clarke, a Sunderland native, later invested in the business.

Vaux's range is all about the cans: A Hazy Shade of Citra, a 5.3% DDH Pale, Freddy's Drop, a 4.3% New Zealand Session IPA, and Starburster, a 5.8% NEIPA, all in 440ml format. There's lighter drinking too, with Get The Rave On, a 4.7% Lemon & Lime Lager, and Wise Men Say, a 4% Session Pale, plus Pink Slice, a 5.5% Raspberry Ale, for something fruitier. A varied lineup spanning hazy pales, session beers and flavoured styles.
