Steve and Christine Gibbs were full-time music teachers through their first year of trading, back in 1994. Their daughter Elly joined in 2003 and took the brewery on in 2020. Cask, keg and bottle-conditioned, all made in house: Temptation, a 10% imperial Russian stout, and gluten-free Magus among them.
Durham Brewery's range covers a proper spread of strengths and styles: Devil's Lapstone Best Bitter (4.8%), Magus Pale Ale (a session-friendly 3.8%), Smoking Blonde Golden Ale (6%), and Temptation Imperial Stout, a big 10% one for sipping slowly. Everything's well crafted, available across bottle-conditioned, cask and keg formats. They've also put out limited releases like Imperious Whiskey 2022, an 11.8% barrel-aged imperial stout: a one-off rather than something that's always on the shelf.
