Crumbs Brewing

Reigate, South East

Morgan and Elaine Arnell left corporate jobs in 2017 to brew beer out of surplus artisan bread: make waste wonderful is the line, and they mean it. Loaves come from bakeries including Chalk Hills, Hobbs House and Punjab Naans, and each bread shapes a different beer. Brewed near Cranleigh.

Crumbs Brewing makes beer from unsold artisan bread instead of malt, tackling the fact that 44% of bread made in the UK never gets eaten. Sourdough Session IPA and Sourdough Pale Pale use sourdough loaves, Naan Laager is brewed with naan bread, Bloomin' Amber Lager (4.8%) uses Surrey Bloomer loaves, and Rye Ruby Ale (5%) and Rye Coffee Porter (7%) are made with rye bread: the porter finished with spent coffee grounds from Union Hand-Roasted Coffee. A proper waste-fighting brewery with a genuinely different angle on where the fermentables come from.
