Twisted Ankle Brewing Co

Aboyne, Scotland

A pico brewery in Coull, in the Howe of Cromar, Aberdeenshire, founded in 2017 by Roger, who left full-time employment to brew using home grown hops. The site once housed a horse mill, and the old millstone inspired the brewery's logo. Beers are brewed, bottled and sold personally, starting out at local producer markets from late 2018 before moving to an online shop.

Twisted Ankle was founded by Roger, inspired by craft beers he came across early on - Alaskan Amber Ale and Vermont's Switchback - and the realisation that great beer could come from small-scale breweries. He still handles pretty much everything himself: recipe formulation, brewing, ingredient buying, bottling, labelling, the lot. The brewery is built on the site of an old horse mill, using granite from the original structure. Up to 15 light and dark ales are on offer, from Game Changer (a 0.5% alcohol-free pale) to Kincraigie, a 4.8% Scottish 80 shilling, and Old Shambles, a 4.5% dry Irish stout.
