The Volunteer is a Fuller's pub on Church Street in Theale, near Reading. It says it was superbly refurbished in 2019 and calls itself Theale's top pub. The bar pours Fuller's favourites such as London Pride and ESB, alongside Meantime IPA and international lagers including Peroni and Asahi Super Dry. A secluded beer garden has a tiled terrace, and there is a cosy fire inside. Families are welcome, and there is a free car park. A quiz night is held on the second Sunday of the month.
