Independent pub · London
The Shakespeare is a family-run pub on Goswell Road in Barbican, in the City of London. It describes itself as a historical pub in the heart of the City. Built in 1964, its name is inspired by the Bard himself, who the pub says lived some hundred metres away. It says it is no longer tied to a brewery or high street chain, so it can choose which beers it stocks. It is in the process of teaming up with a new local independent brewery, and favourite classics, including Guinness, stay behind the bar. The basement has five rooms for private hire, with a fully functional bar.
