The Rising Sun is a town centre pub in Reading, a few minutes' walk from the Abbey. It describes itself as a Grade II listed coaching inn dating back to the 17th century, and as Reading's oldest pub. The building is famous for its ancient Norman arch door. It was extensively refurbished and re-opened in 2024, with the old stable now an upmarket restaurant area. The big garden has decorated pergolas, a shepherds hut bar and eight heated dining pods. Dogs are welcome, with a dog menu.
