The Ensign Ewart is a whisky bar towards the top of Edinburgh's Royal Mile. A pub was first established here in 1680. It describes itself as the closest pub to Edinburgh Castle and the highest in Edinburgh. Around 250 whiskies are on the bar at any one time, with about 50 permanent. For beer drinkers there are four rotating cask ales, all from Scottish breweries, plus other Scottish spirits, wines, cocktails and boozy hot drinks. A small menu of lighter bites draws on local suppliers. There are steps at the entrance, a portable wheelchair ramp is available, and there are no accessible toilets.
