About the pub

Duke of Wellington is a large Joseph Holt pub at 39 Weardale Road in Higher Blackley, Manchester, just off Victoria Avenue. The building pairs a brick ground floor with a 'Brewers' Tudor' upper storey, and was rebuilt by Holts in Edwardian times after they bought it around 1900. Its interior is rated as being of very special national historic interest. The large drinking lobby has ornate sash-window screening to the servery, and the snug keeps old fixed seating, starburst draught screens and a fireplace with bell-pushes. A brass panel is one of about sixty Second World War memorials in pubs around the country. Joseph Holt Bitter is the regular cask beer, among a choice of cask ales, lagers and other beers. Outside are a terrace with outdoor TVs and a beer garden. Live music, bingo, darts and a pool table feature, and there is a function room upstairs.
